OUR MISSION
The mission of the 29th Connecticut Colored Regiment C.V. Infantry, a not-for-profit organization based in New Haven, Connecticut, is to commemorate, and perpetuate the memory and contributions of our ancestors who fought so gallantly in the regiment for their manhood, honor, freedom and glory. We, the members of the 29th, promote cultural awareness of African American, Native American and Caucasian officers who served the 29th in the Civil War.

As a not-for-profit historical organization, our goal is to solicit funds to erect a monument at Grapevine Point, the encampment for the 29th regiment, and to commission artwork for the face plate of the monument that will be reflective of the historic contributions of this Connecticut regiment. Our objectives include preserving the uniforms of our ancestors, participating in parades, establishing relationships with private and public institutions that are involved in historical and educational programming, classroom presentations and working with educators on curriculum development that will increase public awareness of the 29th’s rich history.

Be a Part of History
Youth Dedication Ceremony and Arm Band Parade
New Date! October 6th!

Join us for a special youth dedication of the historic 29th Monument which has been 10 years in the making. Designed by famed sculptor, Ed Hamilton the monument is the first monument in the State of Connecticut to honor the soldiers & officers of African American, Native American, and Caucasian descent who fought for freedom in the United States Civil War.

On Monday, October 6, 2008, at 10 a.m. students from throughout the State of Connecticut will represent soldiers from the CT 29th C.V. Infantry unit by participating in an historic Arm Band Parade. Each student will select the name of a soldier who fought for their town and use an indelible marker to sign the name of that soldier on a muslin arm cloth. Students will wear their arm bands to the original encampment site, Grapevine Point, now known as Criscoulo Park in New Haven, CT, where they will join the Arm Band Parade to pay tribute to the men who fought so gallantly for their freedom during the Civil War.

The arm bands will be sealed in a container and buried next to the 29th monument site for future generations to one day discover.
